Many can agree that God has shown us "great and severe troubles," just as the psalmist writes of. The Lord has excellent reasons for allowing distresses to come our way. They may arrive for correction, sanctification, enlightenment, or a number of other motives.
I love the line in the 1991 movie, City Slickers, when Billy Crystal tells his downhearted friend, "Your life is a do-over. You've got a clean slate."
