What's on Your Mind?
On October 31, much of the world is focused on magnifying and reveling in the unGodly. But Christians who walk closely with the Lord are rejoicing in His goodness and His purity. On the topic of purity, let me present the following super-short devotional. I plucked it from the early years of my writing. What's on Your Mind? . . . whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy: meditate on these things - Philippians 4:8. Thinking good thoughts is like clearing a smooth, straight path between ourselves and the presence of God. Purity is drawn to purity, so this path will be well traveled. In contrast, negative and impure thoughts are like rocks that cause us to stumble and fall. These hazards either slow us down or prevent us from getting to God at all. Keeping our minds focused on positive, holy things will take some effort, but the Spirit of God will enable us, and the rewards will be amazing. Increased energy, peace and joy will come from our closer connection to God. People will notice a difference in us, and the Lord will be glorified. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word - Psalm 119:14-16.
