Live Like It's True
I love the line in the 1991 movie, City Slickers, when Billy Crystal tells his downhearted friend, "Your life is a do-over. You've got a clean slate." A clean slate. Hmmm. That sounds like something from the heart of God. In fact, it is. His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning -
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV. When we wake up each day, we get a "do-over." That's just how our Lord is. People may hold grudges, but the mercies of God are new every morning—no matter how badly we've failed—in spite of how many we've hurt. God's mercy toward us is so zealous and intense that He sent His Son to die in payment for our sin. The blood of Jesus is powerful! It wipes our slate completely clean. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us - Psalm 103:12. My point for born-again Christians is this: God's amazing grace is ours to claim, every minute of every day. His forgiveness, removal and forgetting of our sin is proof that He's on our side. This powerful statement of His love for us proclaims that we're very special in His eyes—that each new day is filled with promise and glory. Even as we walk through hazardous, painful places—through knee-deep garbage with enemy lies whizzing past our heads—we are surrounded by God's favor. For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield - Psalm 5:12. Oh, yes! As beloved children of the Most High God, we live with incredible favor. Will you dare to believe this good news? Will you rise up in faith and live like it's true?
