Arise, shine; for your light has come!  And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you - Isaiah 60:1.

Shifting Priorities

Lately, I haven’t been writing as much as in previous months. Since I’m retired, I certainly have the time, and I’m always being inspired by God's presence and His truth. But to be honest, I’m not getting much of anything done that is visible to others. I’m going through a season with God during which He’s making unseen, hard-to-define changes that are emotionally difficult and almost impossible to explain. I'm sure that some of you can identify. During this unusual chapter of my life, I am learning the value of just putting one foot in front of the other, doing things whether I feel like it or not. In the natural realm, this discipline has enabled me to get my taxes filed ahead of time. It’s also helping me get past my growing dislike of certain chores, like vacuuming. Actually, the older I get, the more I consider house work to be acts of futility, since they require endless repetition. Of course I want a nice clean house, but I want someone else to do the work. I prefer to save my energy for the tasks that truly interest me. Nevertheless, by the grace of God, I’m slowly checking things off my “to do” list. In the spiritual realm, I think God is increasing my endurance—one challenging day at a time.

I see that my priorities are shifting. I hope this means that God is moving me nearer to my “big breakthrough.” You know—that specific, unique thing that He’s promised to each of us who hear His voice. What God has promised me is big and beautiful, so it’s hard to not dream about the future instead of performing mundane tasks. However, I still press on with my humdrum duties, and I refuse to stop dreaming. Both are pleasing to God because they both require a measure of faith.

…since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God – Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV.
